Issue 004

When your strength runs out, His doesn’t.

A note from Amanda

Do you ever get to the end of a day and think, I can’t do this anymore?

You feel like you don’t have much left to give. And you try to keep it together so everything looks fine on the outside. I am sure you know this feeling. It’s the kind of tired that isn’t fixed by a good night’s sleep.

This week, I want to sit with this moment. Why?

Because I think Psalm 73:26 has something real to say to us right in the middle of it all. It begins with one of the most honest admissions you’ll find in the Bible.

This week’s scripture

“My flesh and my heart may fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

PSALM 73:26

This week’s reflection

Here’s what I love about this verse: it doesn’t start with victory. It starts with weakness. “My flesh and my heart may fail.”

Asaph, the man who wrote this psalm, is being completely honest. He’s not wrapping it up in a nice bow. He’s saying, "I am at the end of myself. I have nothing left. I’m done.

“…but God is the strength of my heart.”

That word “but” matters. It doesn’t ignore the struggle. It doesn’t pretend everything is fine. It simply turns our eyes back to God right in the middle of it.

God doesn’t ask you to feel strong before He becomes your strength. He meets you in the place where your own strength has run out.

And then that word - “portion.” God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. In Hebrew culture, a portion was your inheritance. Asaph is saying: God is not just part of my story. He is what I have, He is my enough, He is my sufficiency. I love this!

So many of us are quietly trying to hold everything together, the relationships, the responsibilities, the schedule, the emotions…and somewhere along the way we’ve told ourselves that needing help means we’re failing. But Psalm 73:26 actually acknowledges falling short and finding God there anyway.

So next time you get that feeling, let it remind you of this verse. Let it be the moment when you open your hands, take a breath, and remember: He is your portion. He is your strength. He is the rock on which you can stand. Right now. Just as you are.

Verses to stand on this week

  • Isaiah 40:29 “He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.”

  • Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

  • Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

SPEAK THIS ALOUD

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. I do not have to hold things together in my own strength. He is my sufficiency. He is my enough. Right now, in this moment, He upholds me with His righteous right hand, and I lean on Him. His grace is sufficient for me. His strength is made perfect in my weakness.

Behind the song: I wrote this song for the moments when you’ve run dry, when you’ve given everything and there’s nothing left to give.

The verses that shaped this song are in the description under the video.

This week’s step

ONE SMALL THING

This week, write Psalm 73:26 on a sticky note, the whole verse, and put it somewhere you’ll see it through the day: on your mirror, your desk, your kitchen cupboard. When the tiredness hits and you feel the pull to just push through, stop for thirty seconds, read it out loud, and say: “He is my portion. He is my strength.”
