Issue 011

A note from Amanda

I read your comments and I know some of you are really struggling right now. And whether you are in that place or not, we all have moments where the enemy whispers and tells us untruths about our lives. Instead of taking onboard his lies this is what we can do...it starts with three words...

It Is Written.

This week's scripture

"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword."
Hebrews 4:12

This week's reflection

I'm working on a song at the moment called "It Is Written."

The reason I have written it is because I receive so many comments from people who are struggling. One particular person said this past week: "I put God first and others second. Everyone is prospering but me…”

What we need to remember is that when you are genuinely trying to walk God’s way, the enemy will look for opportunities to discourage you, distract you and undermine your trust in God. "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” John 10:10.

He wants to stop you from trusting God. When he whispers in your ear that you are not good enough, that God has forgotten you, that nothing will ever change or that you may as well give up and on it goes… you need to answer him just as Jesus did!

"It is written...”
“I am a child of God.
I am redeemed.
I am highly favoured.
I am victorious.
I am more than a conqueror.
So, enemy, you need to go. I resist you in the name of Jesus, and I submit myself to God."

Every time the enemy comes our way, we need to speak!

Start your day with this...

"Lord, help me to recognise when a thought is not from You, when it’s from the enemy and when it contradicts Your Word. I make a commitment today to speak Your Word over the enemy's lies, to speak Your Word over my circumstances and to speak Your truth. That is what I am standing on, and I will not be moved from it."

One thing I have noticed about speaking, and I think many of us do this, is that we ‘say these things in our minds’ thinking we are counteracting the voice in our head, but we don't speak it out loud.

There is power in speaking the Word of God aloud.

This is why knowing the Word matters. You cannot speak what you don't know. The more you are in the Word, the more you have to fight with, it becomes your weapon. David said in Psalm 119:11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Hide it in your heart, so that when the enemy speaks, the Word is already there, ready to be declared.

When Jesus was tempted, He said: "It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4

It is written. This is what God's Word says. These are His promises. So, enemy, you can go, because God's Word is my truth and I’m not backing down.

A few years ago, when my husband was in intensive care on a ventilator, the doctors gave me a devastating report. They said they were unable to get him off the intensive-care drugs, and they held very little hope for his recovery. They even asked me whether, if his heart stopped, I wanted them to resuscitate him. From a medical perspective, the situation appeared hopeless.

I did not deny the seriousness of the facts before me and I could have gone down a rabbit hole of worry and fear, but instead, I chose to pray, to trust God and to stand upon His Word. I said, “These may be the facts before me, but I will walk by faith, not by sight.”

Within days, he was off those drugs and recovering. The doctors report described the reality we were facing at that moment, but it did not have the final word.

So today, I make a commitment - and I challenge you to make that commitment too - to stand firmly upon God's Word and His promises.

When negative thoughts come, when self-pity comes and when the thought that "it isn't working" enters your mind, stand firm and declare:

"It is written."

In writing this, I realise this is just one part of the picture, because declaring "It Is Written" is not just about saying the words - it’s about believing them. That is where being fully persuaded comes in. If you missed last week's issue on being fully persuaded, I would encourage you to go back and read it - it’s the foundation for everything in this piece. Go here to read ‘Fully Persuaded.’

Verses to stand on this week

  • "It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4

  • "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword."
    Hebrews 4:12

  • "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
    James 4:7

  • "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please." Isaiah 55:11

  • "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony."
    Revelation 12:11

SPEAK THIS ALOUD

I declare:

It is written: I am more than a conqueror. (Romans 8:37)

It is written: the Word of God is living and powerful in my life. (Hebrews 4:12)

It is written: I submit myself to God. I resist the enemy and he must flee. (James 4:7)

It is written: God’s Word will not return to Him void. It will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it. I will trust what God has said, even when I cannot see what He is doing. (Isaiah 55:11)

It is written: I am an overcomer because of the blood of the Lamb, and I testify that Jesus Christ is Lord. I belong to Him, and I will remain faithful to Him. (Revelation 12:11)

I choose to stand on God's Word and not on what I see, what I feel or what the enemy whispers. God’s Word is truth and that is what I stand on.

When negative thoughts come, when self-pity comes, when the lie that "it isn't working" enters my mind - I will not be moved. I will speak the Word. It is written.

“It Is Written”

When the enemy fills your mind with doubt, answer every lie

with the truth of God’s Word: “It is written…”

This week's step

Start each morning with the prayer from this issue. Speak it out loud, not in your head.

Pick one lie the enemy has been whispering to you lately and find a scripture that directly contradicts it.

Write "It is written" somewhere you will see it daily. When that negative thought comes, say “It is Written…” and follow it with the scripture you found.
